So, how do you feel? Do you notice anything different?

I’ll tell you what I’ve noticed about me. Let me remind you that, I too, am
overweight and out of shape. And for me, that’s a terrible thing to admit. After
all, I’m Suzy Prudden – formally known as “The Fitness Guru” 30 years ago.

Since I started this blog I’ve been walking at least 5 minutes and sometimes
even 15 minutes a day. I have more energy and find that it feels better to
increase my walk when I have the extra time. I’m also drinking more water. My
body likes it. Some of you may find that you have to get up in the night more
often to go to the bathroom. This is a good thing. It means your body is dumping
toxins.

Keep a glass of water by your bed and drink a little more before going back
to sleep, even if it’s 3:00 am. You’ll find you’ll sleep more deeply than if you
just try to go back to sleep. Your body likes water. And, 3:00 am is when your
liver is dumping toxins. Help it. Drink more water.

What other changes are you willing to make? Do you belong to the clean plate
club? Are you willing to relinquish your membership?

Most of us were trained as children to finish everything on our plate. And as
adults, we still do this. It’s engrained in our subconscious minds. That’s why
so many of us are overweight and out of shape.

Would you be willing to leave 10% of the food that you are served on your
plate?

Your eating the food will not feed the children that are starving somewhere
else in the world. Finishing the food on your plate “because you paid for it”
will only cost you MORE when you have to take the weight off because you gained
it finishing everything on your plate. Try leaving food on your plate. If you
find that it is not possible, make it easier on yourself. If you serve yourself,
take a little less than you normally do. If you’re at a restaurant, ask for a
“doggie bag” before the meal and put half your meal in the bag before you start.
You can then finish everything on your plate and still eat far less than you
would have. You can eat what’s in the “doggie bag” for lunch tomorrow. Notice,
you’re probably satisfied long before you finish the meal anyway. That’s when to
stop.

Note: Some of you may believe you’re wasting money if you don’t finish
everything (even the kid’s food, sometimes). Some of you may not like to eat
leftovers for lunch and find you’ll just throw the food out and that’s wasting
money.

The question I have for you is: “How much money has it cost you in the past
or is costing you now to lose the weight you gained because you didn’t want to
waste the food because you paid for it?”

Think of the diets you’ve done, the clothes you’ve had to buy, even the
diseases you may have created for yourself by being overweight ant out of shape.

When you change that habit, you’ll notice a difference. I promise.

Change Your Mind, Change Your Life!

During the course of this next year I am committed to creating programs for
you that will help you get your body back, increase your energy and your
intelligence and, if you want to, get a better job and make more money.
Remember, it all starts in your mind. Your body is the vehicle that gets you
there. It’s up to you to take care of vehicle.

Between now and my next post, write down what you are going to change that is
doable for you. You don’t have to ask anyone for advice. You know exactly what
you’re willing to do. Keep a notebook and copy these posts in it. These will be
your guide while your program comes from you. I will make suggestions. If they
work for you, do them. If they don’t wok for you, don’t. This is about you.

I am creating a five minute guided visualization processes from wanting to
exercise to exercising each part of your body. These will help you continue with
whatever you decide to do. They’ll be up soon, so stay tuned.

Here’s what I recommend you do today:

Make 2 changes.

1. Start to move your body.

If you’re not exercising, start with 5 minutes of walking. . If you already are
Exercising, continue. Make sure it’s something you like to do and say positive
things to yourself while you’re doing the exercise. I’ll explain why later.

2. Start to drink water.

Get rid of the sodas and juices. I won’t tell you to stop drinking coffee,
because I drink coffee. Just cut back. I know that coffee may be liquid, it’s
not water. Any drink you drink, other than water, digests as a meal. Think about
it; if you drink 2 sodas (diet or otherwise) a day, 1 glass of juice a day, and
2 cups of coffee a day, that’s 5 extra meals a day.

Hmmmmmmm, and we wonder why 80% of Americans today are overweight and out of
shape.

You don’t have to be one of them.

If you’re overweight and out of shape, you can change it. Start slowly and
keep it easy.

Your biggest challenge will be the way you talk to yourself. Stop beating
yourself up and stop cheating on yourself and stop "should-ing" on yourself.

Move your body everyday for at least 5 minutes and drink 8 to 10 glasses of
water a day.

That’s all for now. It’s up to you. It’s your body and it’s yours’ for life.

Change Your Mind, Change Your Life!

Income? Did she say income? Yes, income.

Did you know that overweight and out of shape people earn less money doing
the same job than people who are in shape and at their ideal weight? It’s true.

Did you know that overweight and out of shape people get passed over for
promotions (regardless of how good they are at their job) for people who are in
shape and at their ideal weight? It’s true.

Did you know that people who are overweight and out of shape are taken less
seriously than people who are in shape and at their ideal weight? That’s true,
too.

And, did you know that people who are overweight and out of shape are treated
more rudely in almost every situation than people who are in shape and at their
ideal weight? If you’re overweight and out of shape you probably already know
this, but you’re pretending it isn’t true.

The people in your world: whether you like it or not; are not going to
change. You have to. If you don’t mind being overweight and out of shape, and
you don’t mind earning less money, and you don’t mind being taken less
seriously, and you don’t mind when people are rude to you, and you don’t mind
the health risks, then stay where you are.

But, if you do mind, then it’s time to make some changes. And you have to
make them simple, doable and fun. Going on a strict diet and committing to a
rigorous exercise routine may not be for you. It certainly isn’t for me. I have
a very busy schedule and a great deal of responsibility and I want all of this
to be easy. My guess is; so do you.

You have to change your thinking. Start telling yourself how wonderful you
are and you’re “willing” for it to be okay to change your body. Be loving to
yourself. That’s really where it all begins. Remember, you can’t get through
life without your body. And you want your body to be healthy. Being overweight
and out of shape is not healthy. And it doesn’t feel good.

Start a journal. Keep it simple. If you’re overweight and out of shape, write
down where you are. It’s important to have a starting point. You may not like
what I’m about to say but have someone take a picture of you. It’s not to show
anyone but you. Put it in your journal (you can even put it in face down). It’s
a reference point.

I had a client several years ago who couldn’t tell the difference in her body
after she had lost 50 lbs. with my program. We had taken a picture of her when
she first came into the office, so we took another one of her that day, 50 lbs.
lighter. She was stunned. She had no idea she had changed so much. That’s why
I’m telling you to take a picture. (I’d like to start a “Success Gallery” over
the next year and all of you who want to participate, be part of it).

Write down your weight today or tomorrow. If you can, have someone measure
your body: Write down your size. Remember, this is your “start.” Right now
you’re overweight and out of shape.

Let’s see where you are in 3 months, 6 months and a year. And remember, I’m
in this with you. I’ll show you mine, if you’ll show me yours’.

Change Your Mind, Change Your Life!

(I have to confess….. between my fourth post on being Overweight and Out of
Shape and this thread… I digressed. I went on two back to back business trips
and indulged in two diet cokes while I was on the road and only exercised 5 days
out of the 12 I was away. That’s called “Life,” and it will happen. I’m not a
fanatic – I’m just working on making the changes I need to make.)

And today, I’m back on track. That’s what this is about. Make a
commitment you can keep. If you fall off the commitment, notice it, and get back
on track. There is no make-wrong here.

It’s time to stop making excuses for being overweight and out of shape. It’s
time to get your body back (or your body the way you want it to be for the first
time).

Think of what you’re willing to do. Start slowly. Make those little
commitments. Make them doable. Be kind to yourself. And do it.

Write me what you want support with. Let’s do this together. I’m excited. I
already see the changes in my body. More importantly, I’m experiencing the
changes in my mind.

Did you know that what you eat and how you move your body affects your
intelligence? It also affects your moods. And yes, it also affects your income.

Did I get your attention?

What’s the first thing you should do to stop being overweight and out of
shape?

The first thing I did was to stop drinking Diet Coke. Yes, Diet Coke has no
calories but the chemicals in Diet Coke causes fat to adhere to the cells. Fat
is in your body to protect your organs. Diet Coke is all chemicals. Diet
anything is all chemicals. The fat in your body holds the chemicals (toxins) to
protect the organs from the toxicity in the Diet Coke.

Do you remember TAB? It was one of the first diet drinks. I think it came out
in the 60’s. I loved it. Do you know what T A B stands for? Totally Artificial
Beverage! And we drank gallons of it. Well, Diet Coke (diet anything) is the
same… it’s totally artificial. (I’ll get into more of that later).

I decided letting go (notice I didn’t say “giving up”) Diet Coke was doable.
(It’s not always easy, even today, but it’s doable. I used to drink 6 to 10 a
day. I let it go and started drinking lots of water. AND, I started losing
weight. The other thing I committed to was to do some sort of exercise for 5
minutes a day. And sometimes even 5 minutes is difficult for me. But I’m doing
it. And I’m doing it because I told you I would.

So, ask yourself, what are you willing to do each week? Begin an exercise
program for 5 to 10 minutes a day? Cut back on “diet foods?” Perhaps take
smaller portions or begin to leave food on your plate. Remember, make it doable.
You’re not in a race.

With little changes, you can change from being overweight and out of shape to
being strong, healthy, fit and the right weight for you. You just have to make
it doable.

Okay, so you’ve had a few days to consider if you really want to do this. My
guess is, you do… and you don’t. It’s easy to stay overweight and out of shape.
And your experience from the past is, it’s difficult to lose weight, get in
shape and stay there. And you’re right. So let’s change that right now.

The first question you have to ask is: “Am I tired of being overweight and
out of shape?” For most people the answer is, “Yes.” Or, “Yes, but…” Yes, but
means “No.”

So my question to you is, “What do you need to get to ‘Yes” without the
“but?”

The answer is really simple. You need to change your mind. The only real way
to change your mind is to talk to your subconscious mind. You can do this
through guided imagery, visualization, meditation or hypnosis. I am working on a
guided imagery process you will be able to use to help you change your mind so
you will truly want to make the changes you need to make to get beyond being
overweight and out of shape.

This download should be available in a few weeks, so stay tuned. Don’t wait
until you have the download, start now. Make one simple change each week and see
how quickly you can change from being overweight and out of shape, to having the
body you love. Remember, it’s your body, there are no exchanges.

When I decided to get back into shape I had to commit to what I could
reasonably do. If I stepped too far out of my comfort zone I knew I’d fall back.

I started with small changes in my diet (I’m not on a diet) and I committed
to 5 minutes of exercise a day. That seems like a ridiculously small amount,
especially coming from the fitness background I come from. But I know myself.
And you know yourself.

What are you willing to do?

Keep it simple. Make it less than you know you “should” do, and be
consistent.

Change Your Mind, Change Your Life!

So here we are. If this blog grabbed your attention, you’re probably
thinking, “So what do I do?” I can tell you to go on a diet and exercise. But
you’ve heard that your whole life and you’ve probably tried every diet (and they
worked while you were on the diet). You’ve probably joined gyms, hired personal
trainers, bought hundreds of books and videos and promised to exercise on a
daily basis. You’ve probably lost the weight and periodically gotten into pretty
good shape. AND, you’ve probably gained the weight back (plus) and stopped
exercising and lost the momentum you had.

You’re sick and tired of trying to stay fit. It’s almost as if it’s okay to
be overweight and out of shape. Trying to do all the things you have to do in
your life, AND stay fit and trim is just too hard, too time consuming and too
frustrating. I agree.

At 64, I just don’t want to do it the way I used to. I want it to be easy. So
let’s create “easy”, remember, I’m on this journey with you. And I teach” this
stuff. Now I’m going to do it with you.

Being overweight and out of shape means different things to different people.
I work with people who have anywhere from 5 lbs. to 200 lbs. to lose. I have
people who think being out of shape is having difficulty running the mile a day
they’ve committed to, to not being able to do one sit up.

So ask yourself, where is your starting point. How overweight and out of
shape are you?

Take a notebook and keep a chart of where you are now and your progress. How
much time are you willing to commit to, to change the habits and patterns that
got you overweight and out of shape? Let’s keep it easy.

The first thing you have to do is change your mind. As long as you’re focused
on saying to yourself, “I’m overweight and out of shape,” you’re reaffirming
your being overweight and out of shape.

So start there; change your focus. The focus has to become, “It’s now okay to
get in shape.” If that feels too uncomfortable to say, and you’ll feel it as
soon as you say it, then say: “I’m now willing for it to be okay to get in
shape.” Give it a shot.

What you’re doing is giving yourself permission to stop being overweight and
out of shape. You’re changing your focus and giving your mind a new assignment.
Your mind will give you whatever you focus on. Your mind is the power behind
everything you do. It creates everything you focus on.

If you focus on what you don’t want, you will get it. If you start to focus
on what you do want, you’ll get it. Start with where you are, focus on where you
want to be, breathe, and know that it’s a process and it will take time.

Change Your Mind, Change Your Life!

When I turned my back on fitness in 1983, I was a fitness leader and pioneer.
The daughter of Bonnie Prudden, the nation’s foremost fitness authority and
co-founder of The President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, I was
known as the fitness guru; a fitness celebrity.

Leaving the field of “exercise,” I started studying the mind. It was, and
still is, truly fascinating to me. I never wanted to go back to teaching
fitness. I moved forward into guided imagery, spirituality, body/mind
technology, nutrition and hypnosis. I wanted to leave “Suzy Prudden Fitness
Guru” far behind. So far that I even allowed myself to become over weight and
out of shape.

There’s no way I’ll go on television in a leotard today.

The problem for me was that no matter where I would go, even 23 years after
leaving fitness, people still know my name. “Are you THE Suzy Prudden?” they
ask. I finally realized I couldn’t leave her behind. I might as well be Suzy
Prudden, get back in shape and do so while I help others do so. After all, not
only am I a fitness expert, I’ve learned incredible ways to get and stay in
shape and be the right weight through mind/body technology, nutrition, hypnosis,
guided imagery, as well as exercise. I have more tools in my toolbox then ever
before to overcome being overweight and out of shape.

If you’re one of those people who feel overweight and out of shape,
regardless of your shape or weight, come with me on the journey of reinventing
your body (and yourself).

We’ll start slowly; after all, it was the tortoise that won the race.

Yes, it does start in the mind, you do have to eat right (I didn’t say go on
a diet), and you have to move your body. It doesn’t have to hurt, take a lot of
time, or make you feel deprived.
